Treasury Targets Global Network Shipping Iranian Oil, Funding Iran’s Military and Terrorist Activities | U.S. Department of the Treasury

Main Post:

Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is sanctioning nearly two dozen firms operating in multiple jurisdictions in virtually every aspect of Iran’s illicit international oil trade. The Iranian government allocates billions of dollars’ worth of oil annually to its armed forces to supplement their budget allocations, underwriting the development of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as financing regional terrorist groups. Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff (AFGS) and its main commercial affiliate, Sepehr Energy Jahan Nama Pars Company (Sepehr Energy), continue to establish front companies and rely on buyers and facilitators to enable their sanctioned oil trade. Since the start of this administration, Treasury has rapidly moved to implement President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign on Iran and have taken 19 actions, sanctioning 253 individuals, entities, and vessels related to Tehran and its proxies.

What’s internet like in Iran?

Main Post:

Hello! I want to come to Iran as a tourist, I’m very curious about the country, the culture and the people.

One concern I have though is regarding the internet access. I need to be connected because I work online so this is crucial for me. Does the government block internet or has it more or less been normal since the protests?

What is the attitude to tourists in Tehran and the rest of the country (I’m from Russia if that makes a difference)

Thank you!

Top Comment: The internet is heavily filtered in Iran, and sometimes webmasters block Iranian IP's. LTE/5G internet is high speed and available in Iran via SIM cards but Iran's main landline internet access prescribed by law is ADSL2+ which is slow. Fiber optic internet is slowly becoming available as the law is being softened but I doubt as a tourist you'll have any access to it. I recommend getting a Irancell SIM card because it gives you 5G or LTE coverage with high speed internet and the data prices are very affordable, and also Irancell supports the English language for its services.

VoA Iran is now unfunded

Main Post:

It appears that US funded VOA, Voice of America, the official US news outlet for people outside the US, has placed 100% of staff on administrative leave. This of course includes VoA Iran, I'll leave my opinion on them unsaid, unfunded. Reporter Carla Babv rants about not being able to report on the Ayatollahs. lol

Top Comment: Yeah that's what USAID was also being used for. I'm glad that this garbage fox News for Iranian monarchists isn't able to operate anymore. They never were really great journalists and most of their takes were really delusional.
